#17/1 Tensity and intensity

This can not be happening. Not now, no way! Kitty cursed disappointed in herself for not taking the opportunity the first moment it manifested in front of her. As Kitty reached the exit door she saw them. The vampires were few feet away just putting their coats on and heading to the elevator door.
- Hey! Wait! She yelled and the moment after that she regretted it. But how else was she going to get the to stop and turn around. The elevator doors opened and they were just about to step in as Kitty reached them. And before she even realized what she was doing, Kitty ran into the elevator with those two vampires. The vampires didn't even realize what happened until the doors closed and the elevator started to head down. And there were they, the three of them - alone.

The vampires stared at Kitty as she stood in the middle of them out of breath from the running. Then Kitty looked back at them, said a prayer in her mind and swallowed so loudly it seemed like she was trying to swallow her fear.
- Look. I know you're vampires. She said. And the one with long dark hair looked at her like he wanted to slaughter her right then and there.
- Don't try anything ...weird. I just want to talk. Kitty tried to open the conversation.
- How do you know about us? The one with lighter shorter hair and the glasses asked.
- Nigel sent me. Kitty decided to be honest. Maybe dropping another vampire's name would help.
- That useless piece of shit... The angrier one said and looked at his friend. In which point Kitty didn't know if he was angry at her or his friend.
- What do you want! he asked turning his face and anger back to Kitty.
- I'm not going to out you or anything. I don't want any harm. I just need help. Kitty tried to explain. The one with the glasses reached out his hand push the other one a bit further from Kitty and then he looked at Kitty.
- Help with what? He asked.
- A friend of mine. Alex. Went missing some time ago and I think some vampires have something to do with it. All I need is...
- We have no interest in helping humans with anything. The dark one stated very strongly.
- Please I need to know what happened. If you could just tell me if you know anything, if you have heard anything, if you have any idea where I could look for...
- No. He said even more strongly.
- But please listen, maybe we could... The vampire leaned to Kitty so quickly and strongly that Kitty screamed a little. But then the elevator arrived down and the doors opened. The vampires left at that moment and disappeared so quickly Kitty didn't even see which way they went. And so the vampires were gone.

#16/1 Chances pass by too quick

As soon as Kitty's next break started she walked straight to the break room and opened the window. She just had to push her head outside for fresh air. Not that air in New York is that fresh ever but what ever, she figured. Trying to breathe for a while she had to remind her why she had gotten into this in the first place. She didn't come this far just to back down. She needed to talk a vampire, any vampire. And there were two sitting right in her reach. Kitty couldn't set aside the fact that these vampires were like the other she had seen. These were miles away from the blood junkies like Nigel and Debbie lurking in the dark alleys hidden from everybody to see. These vampires were cocky, confident, not afraid to be seen which could only mean that they were strong and dangerous if crossed. If Kitty wanted to have a conversation with them she needed to be really really careful.

But the bottom line was no matter how scared Kitty was or how dangerous it could be, Kitty had to find Alex. She was aching every moment just thinking about all that had happened. People do disappear sometimes and it doesn't always mean there has to be something supernatural behind it, but taking the situation in consideration Kitty knew normal police investigation could just not solve this disappearance. Kitty refused to think that the last time she saw Alex could have been the last time period. What Kitty needed to do right now was to get herself together and do what she needed to do. There might not be a next chance. Kitty was so nervous that if somebody had offered her a cigarette or a shot of tequila right then and there she would've taken it. Even though she didn't smoke, and she wasn't supposed to drink during work.

When the break was over Kitty walked back full with determination. She still didn't feel confident about all this but she was sure she had to do this now or never. But as she walked back to the club bar she saw through the glass walls of the cabinet that the vampires weren't sitting there anymore.
- Oh, no...
- What? Sandy asked.
- Where are those two...?
- They just left like a second ago. Don't worry I haven't cleared the table yet, you can go and collect the tip and all... Kitty get on her feet immediately. Maybe she wasn't too late. Maybe she could still catch them. Vampires are quick and good at disappearing but if it truly was a second ago they could't have gone far. Kitty ran to the exit.

#15/1 Do monsters have manners?

- Bloody hell, girl. I might give you this job just for that. Tommy said to Kitty as she walked back to the bar.
- What's our best wine? She asked.
- Hold on. I'll get it for you. But I can't believe you actually told the other one not to smoke. Tommy laughed.
- You saw it? Kitty asked and picked up two wine glasses from the shelf. She realized probably all the staff was watching her from the distance. That must have been the event of the year or something.
- I'm serious Jersey, you keep those two happy but in line and behaving I swear this job is yours. Tommy said and lowered his voice. He stood really close to Kitty and continued:
- They make the other waitresses somehow uncomfortable and there's not talking to them. But they order expensive stuff, pay well and leave generous tips. They're good customers and I don't want to lose them or others like them. Kitty nodded.
- Okay. You got yourself a deal ...if you promise never to call me Jersey again. She said.
- Got it. Snooki... Tommy said and winked at Kitty. Before Kitty had a change to really yell at him he walked to back of the bar to get that wine. Sandy walked to Kitty holding a broomstick. She had been clearing the floor from glass all this time.
- I see you got back alive. She said.
- I don't care what Tommy says. I get a creepy feeling about those guys. I swear sometimes they looks at girls like predators look at prey. Sandy shook her head and rolled her eyes. Kitty wished she could say Sandy was just imagining it but all that sounded too probable.
- Here. Tommy said and gave Kitty the bottle she asked for. Kitty opened it and pour some into the glasses she had picked up earlier. She placed the glasses on a trey and held onto the tray begging to get the courage to walk back to the two predators. She noticed Sandy was looking at her about to say something.
- I'm just nervous with trays. I'm afraid I'll drop something. Kitty tried to explain.
- Right. Who isn't. Sandy said and turned away. Kitty took a deep breath and lifted the tray. Her legs were saying no, but she forced herself to start walking.

Kitty got back to the cabinet without dropping the tray or pouring the glasses on the way. But as she got closer to the vampires she felt the air being sucked out of her lungs. She had to remind herself to breathe.
- Here you. Two glasses of wine. She said and slowly put both of the glasses on the table. She was afraid to reach her hand too close to either one of the vampires. Then she just stood there waiting for the next order. The vampires didn't even look at her during this whole time. The one who had the glasses had taken them off and was cleaning them with a napkin. They didn't say a word, not to Kitty or each other. Then the one cleaning up the glasses slowly placed them back to his eyes and  looked up to Kitty:
- Okay, carry on, won't you. Kitty startled and without saying anything turned back to walk away. Well he's definitely British. Kitty thought after hearing his accent more clearly and as she was walking out she and back to the bar side of the club she heard the other one shouting from the table:
- Merci beaucoup.

#14/1 Facing the danger behind closed doors

Those two men walking in looked nothing like other vampires Kitty had seen before. To be completely fair she hadn't seen THAT many vampires, but these men were cool, posed, they dressed sharp and stylish, they looked expensive. But they had no human expression on their faces. They walked on the side of the club and entered a glass door at  the end of the club.
- Who are they? Kitty asked.
- Just customers. That's all. They come here all the time. Sometimes they just... act weird. Sandy said and tried to appear completely fine with the situation. Kitty assumed it was her job to treat every paying customer equal, or maybe she was just trying to hide her fear.
- Are they... threatening in some way? Kitty tried to get something out of Sandy.
- No... God no! No way! Sandy said and shook her head. Some people just  feel a bit uncomfortable around them. That's all. You know how people can be. Sandy tried to laugh it off. Now I need to get somebody to serve them at the cabinet. Lets hope they stay there tonight.
- I'll go. Kitty said and felt the desperate need to talk to them as soon as possible.
- Really? Sandy asked and seemed a bit suspicious.
- I may not be good at mixing drinks but damn it I can take orders. No matter how weird the people are. Kitty said and picked a notepad from her apron pocket.
- Well, if you feel you're up for it... Sandy said but before she even finished her sentence Kitty was already walking towards the cabinet door. Sandy didn't even realize she herself was stepping on the glasses Kitty had dropped just minutes earlier.

Kitty's heart was pounding like a hammer. Her hands were sweaty as she tried to have a solid grip of the pen and notepad in her hands. The cabinet was empty of other customers. Just she and the vampires were there and that made Kitty even more nervous. Sure there was the glass door and glass walls but nobody was near her to help her if she got in some kind of trouble. And by the looks of Sandy's reaction nobody would come if she needed help. The vampires were sitting across each other by a table. They didn't seem to be talking but who knew if they were secretly communicating by some kind of telepathy. The one facing away from the door immediately turned his face to Kitty as soon as she entered the door. He looked suspicious about Kitty and Kitty didn't know why. Maybe he read her mind? Maybe he knew that she was looking for them.
- What are you? the vampire asked. He had a light brown almost blond hair cut short but not too short. He was also wearing glasses and Kitty found that a bit odd. Vampire who needed glasses.
- I... I'm new in here. I'm your waitress tonight. Kitty said trying to act as less bothered by the situation as possible. Then Kitty took a look at the other vampire who hadn't said a word yet. He had long dark hair cut to shoulder length. He had also a bit of a beard, full lips and dark eyes - just staring at Kitty. Kitty shivered and she got goosebumps all over her body.
- What can I get to you two gentlemen? Kitty asked and pulled up her notepad and pen that were pretty much dripping sweat by now. The darker one of the two sat further back on his seat and reached his hand to his jacket pocket. He pulled out a really fancy looking cigarette case.
- Wine. How's your wine collection tonight? He asked picking up a thin cigarette from the case and placing it on his lips. Kitty detected an accent from his speech but couldn't recognize it from just from that sentence.
- I... Kitty swallowed. I can get the wine collection.
- Don't bother. Just bring us two glasses of your best wine. He said not even looking at Kitty. He put a lighter at the end of his cigarette and was almost about to light the cigarette when Kitty interrupted him.
- I'm sorry sir, but there's no smoking in here. The moment those words got out of Kitty's mouth she regretted them. She didn't want to provoke a vampire.
- Is that right? He asked.
- Yes. Kitty said and started wondered if it's true what they say that your entire life flashes in front of your eyes before you die.
- Well. In that case... The vampire said and put the cigarette back to the case and the lighter back to his pocket. Kitty was shocked. Was that it? Situation over? A possible life threatening moment gone by... She nodded and started slowly walking away.

#13/1 Shatters of hope

The night at the club wasn't maybe as big of a disaster as Kitty thought at the time. She was afraid she was being too slow and always blocking somebody's way. Sandy tried to help as much as she could but it was a busy night and it would've taken a miracle to help Kitty. But instead of just giving up Kitty put on her happy face and kept on smiling at everybody and trying to be as friendly as possible. At times she got so overwhelmed with work she forgot to look around for men that appeared to be something like vampires. She was angry at herself for not asking Nigel more details on how these two vampires supposedly looked alike. But on the other hand Nigel wasn't much into hanging around and having long conversations. Maybe the vampires didn't even show up that night. That's exactly why Kitty desperately needed that job. She had to be around long enough to spot them. She had to find them. What were their names anyway? Reese and Matthew? As soon as Kitty stopped for a moment to think somebody bumped into her and she dropped all the glasses she had been carrying in her hands on the floor shattering completely - and loudly.

Kitty felt like swearing a lot and loud but instead she just got down on her knees and started gathering the pieces of glass together.
- Oh my God, are you okay? Kitty heard Sandy ask slightly above her. Somebody stomped on Kitty's hand and that was the moment she almost felt like breaking down. At least her smile got wiped away that instant.
- Really, don't worry about it. I'll get a broom or something, don't hurt your hands over this. Sandy tried to cheer Kitty up.
- Yeah, right... Kitty said and stopped. But she didn't get up.
- I know it's hard but you really do have a great attitude. I heard Tommy say it. That's good, eh? Who knows he might still keep you around. I mean nobody's like perfect and we do need more people, you know. Sandy kept on consoling Kitty.
- What time is it? How long do I have to just keep strong? Kitty asked. Sandy lift up her hand from Kitty's shoulder where she had placed it during the consoling. She looked at the small watch on her wrist and said:
- A little bit past one. It's gonna get slower  soon. People get tired and go home eventually, right? Sandy laughed a bit and looked around. But as she looked up her eyes got a sight of something that completely changed the expression on her face.
- Oh, no... Sandy said.
- What? Kitty asked and tried to look around to see what Sandy saw. She tried to get up as quick as she could but she stumbled a bit and almost fell on the shatters of glass.
- I was hoping they wouldn't come tonight and scare off all the new comers. Sandy said and stomped her right  foot on the floor.
- Who? Kitty asked and as she got the word out of her mouth she saw two men walking in and slowly passing the dance floor.

#12/1 People go missing all the time, right?

The next night Kitty drove back to Manhattan. Walking back to Up Above and during that long ride up in the elevator Kitty still wasn't sure what she was getting into. She had grabbed all the papers she could've imagined to need  and wrote herlsef a job aplication for waitressing at the club. She didn't lie to Tommy when she said she had been doing that in a cafe when she was younger but she was never any good at it. Hairdressing was her calling if there was such a thing but maybe she needed a new direction in her life and maybe this could've been it. If she got the job. Her main goal was still to find those vampires Nigel had mentioned but in case they didn't show up working at night could probably help her find some other creatures of the night.

- Well there you are! Tommy shouted with a happy tone as soon as the elevator doors opened.
- Here are all the papers you asked for. Kitty said and started going through her big hand bag.
- Great, leave them on my desk and I'll try to find you a t-shirt. We don't exactly have a working uniform in here, but everybody wears the same t-shirt... Yo' Sandy! Come over here! Tommy elled at some girl few feet away. The girl started walking towards Tommy. Kitty went to put the papers on Tommy's desk.
- Sandy here is going to help you with getting started. I'm going to check on you later. Tommy said from the doorway and walked away.
- I'm Sandy, here's your shirt. The girl said. She was a tall girl with long blonde hair.
- I'm Kitty. Kitty said and took the shirt.
- Come on. I'll show you where to change and leave your coat. Sandy said and started walkint towards what turned out to be a changing room for female workers.
- Don't worry. This place is okay to work in. I'm sure you can manage. Do you know how to mix drinks? Sandy asked.
- Ermm... No. Not yet, I mean. But I'm learning, I learn real fast. Kitty said.
- Okay. To be honest, that's kinda something you should master, but don't worry I'll help you for tonight. If I can. Who knows Tommy might hire you even though you can't do everything. We desperately need more help in here.
- Really. Why? Are you just starting or...
- Well... I probably shouldn't talk about it but a few people quit and some are just not picking up the phone, you know...
- So you've lost some workers. Kitty couldn't help but wonder if that had something to do with any supernatural things least of all vampires.

#11/1 Just go with it

Kitty stood still in the elevator scared to even think what was going to happen next. What if she was heading straight to a vampire's nest and would find herself in the middle of an ambush. She would get herself killed or worse, what ever that was.

Then the elevator stopped and the doors slowly opened. Kitty was afraid of stepping out but she did it anyway.  The doors closed again right behind her but she was afraid to walk any further. She looked around the dark corridor and saw some light coming from few different directions. Where was she supposed to go?
- Come on in! Kitty heard a man's voice say. Erm.. where, she thought and looked around again.
- Hi! I'm here, come on in. A man's head popped out around the corner and invited her in. She slowly started walking towards the man.
- I'm Tommy, please come on in and sit down. The man said reaching out his hand to shake Kitty's hand. Kitty shook his hand and was relieved to see that he was just a regular guy and not a stalking vampire. She sat down still not knowing what she was doing there. Tommy was a muscular man with short dark hair. He had a piercing hole in his left ear but no earring. He sat down behind a desc full of all kinds of papers. The room looked like an office.
- I'm really sorry, what's your name again? Tommy asked and started going through his papers.
- Umm... Kitty.
- Kitty? right, I... I'm really sorry I have so many interviews scheduled that I have totally forgotten about you. And it looks like I've lost your application too, shit. This must look very professional to you. Tommy laughed.
- It's okay. Kitty said all confused.
- Right, I'm just gonna have to ask you all the things all over again. Hope you don't mind? Tommy said and took a pen and paper from his drawer. Kitty shook her head.
- So, Kitty... Tommy said and wrote something on his paper. How much experience do you have on this field, like waiting, bar tending and so on?
- I... I... Kitty had to pull herself together and just go with it. I used to work in a cafe for few years after I turned 16 and after that I worked weekends at a near by pub but I quit after I graduated into a profession.
- Which profession?
- I'm a hairdresser. I've been working in beauty salons ...till now.
- Why not anymore?
- I... my life... My life is in a place where I need like a new direction, you know.
- Well I sure know what that's like. Tommy smirked.

- You're from Jersey, right? Tommy asked.
- I guess it's that obvious, huh. Kitty rolled her eyes.
- Yeah. If you wish to work up here you have to clean up your look, if you know what I mean. Take off all the bling and other cheap jewelry. Tame down that hair - hairdresser - put it on a ponytail and go much smaller with it. Could you take off the extensions or would that be too big of a job? Tommy asked and Kitty shook her head again. Her cheap hair extensions were clip on's.
- I'm not saying you'll get a job at here but if you did, you'd deffo have to do all those things. Tommy said and Kitty understood.
- This is a nice place, classy place. People up here spend big money on having a good time and we have a certain image we have to maintain. Other than that you seem like a nice personality and you're a cute girl, just what we are looking for. And I feel so bad for losing all your papers I feel like I  need to make that up to you somehow. Kitty nodded.
- So how would you feel about coming up here tomorrow night and taking a test run? You could bring your resume and all the other papers. And we'd see how this works for you and us. We're going to have some other new girls trying out then too so you wouldn't be alone. Obviously we wouldn't hire all of you, but...
- Sure, I get it. Sounds fair enough. Kitty answered.
